How does it work?

First measure all four sites; three times would be best, but once is enough. Then enter your values into the apropriate fields and klick the Calculate button. The result will be displayed.

What if no result is displayed?

DW4 Measurements on front We need one value in each line at least. If you did not, the calculator ignores your input. And please don't forget to enter your age, please.

Recomendation

This calculator works best on men from 30 to 40 years of age. Everyone else should use a calculator that fits better (e.g. the Jackson/Pollock 3folds-formula). Men younger than 20 years shouldn't use this formula at all: it's too unprecise for them.

The locations:

1) Scapula fold: A diagonal fold on the back, at the lower edge of the scapula. Angle of inclination should be 45°, clockwise.
DW4 Measurements on the back 2) Triceps fold: A vertical fold at mid of the upper arms backside.
3) Biceps fold: A vertical fold at the upper arms frontside, half way between shoulder and ellbow.
4) Hip fold: A diagonal fold straight over the pelvis, close to the navel. Angle of inclination should be 30°, clockwise.

The formula:

S = Sum of all four folds
A = age in years
d = 1,1714 - 0.063 * log(S) - 0.000406*A
Bodyfat [%] = 495 / d - 450
